Trains en guerre
On the eve of World War II, most countries already knew that railways were essential in terms of logistics. They had used the train during the First World War to transport troops and supplies. But between 1939 and 1946, control of the train became even more strategic for economic and industrial reasons, but above all, it became a weapon. An armored monster, invisible even to military intelligence services on the ground. An asset for organizing battles but also, and this was new at the time, for transporting civilians fleeing cities. The engine was modernized, the locomotives were customized to become true war machines: fast and strong. This unprecedented series will focus on four famous European battles of World War II: the Battle of Britain, the failure of Barbarossa, Operation Overlord, and the liberation of France. Combining archives, testimonies, graphic design, 3D imagery and detailed and dynamic mapping, each battle will be brought to life to understand the importance of trains at the heart of the war.
