To Rome with Love

Following his wifes death, Michael Endicott moved with his three daughters from Iowa to Rome, Italy, to teach at the American Overseas School. His sister, Harriet, briefly joined them before returning to Iowa. In the second season, Michaels father-in-law, Andy Pruitt, visited from Iowa, having sold his farm, and took up residence in their apartment.

Alice, a tourist, mistakes Mike Endicott for Italian, and he plays along, unaware of the romantic complications to come. He woos the charming American teacher with dinner and dancing, then struggles to reveal his deception.

Lacking a phone, the Endicotts relied on the grocers. Gino then contacted a distant relative in the phone company, and miraculously, the Endicotts got their own line. The consequence? Overuse by neighbors and a disgruntled grocer with a neglected phone.
