Sisters Gert and Marigold Brewer arrive in Dead Horse Gap, on the run from some sketchy criminal business in Sydney but full of hope for a bright and prosperous future. They track down an old friend, Fran, who has reinvented herself as a cultured French woman to nab her uber wealthy husband, Percy. But when Fran pretends not to know them, the sisters must come up with a cunning plan to find shelter for the night.

Rejected once again by respectable society, Gert goes on an angry bender and unwittingly hooks up with a man of god.

Gert and Marigolds mother unexpectedly rolls into town, with news that the sisters are wanted for murder in Sydney.

Suspected murderers, thieves (and confirmed hussies), Gert and Marigold take the stand in their murder trial.
