When Charlie Xie, the son of a prominent real estate developer, turns up dead, Detective Jo Bradley gets her first case as lead – the same day she also receives devastating personal news.

Jo and Gorski catch a break in the case, forcing the Xies to close ranks on the investigation. Jos cancer is interfering with her work and Teresas condition worsens.

Losing patience with Jos inexperience, Gorski presses to take over the investigation. Time is running out and Lt. Chu is anxious for answers.
