David Moore is in East Africa to get to his employers railway construction site. Hes accompanied by the owners son Brian and theyve lined up Jack Cuortemayn, reputedly the best guide available, to take them there. Cuortemayn refuses as he doesnt care for the impact the railroad will have on the local inhabitants. While Moore tries to make other arrangements, he meets Ruth Knight who has lived there for many years working with her father in a medical clinic. There will be adventures along the way but when Ruth is captured by slave traders, its up to the others to rescue her.

Shes smitten, as is he, so he shows off a bit. Popeye finally catches on, and they start the usual round of fighting and one-upmanship. Bluto summons a wide array of animals, and while Popeyes occupied, hauls Olive high into a treehouse. With some help from the chimp, Popeye has his spinach and turns most of the animals into fur coats (on a rack the chimp pushes through the melee), then rescues Olive by hauling on the trees roots until shes at ground level.
