Comedian Cedric the Entertainer uses his considerable appeal to introduce some up-and-coming young stand-up comedians. Cedric himself takes on topics such as Bill Clinton, the death penalty, reality television, fast-food chicken, church etiquette, and much more. The other comedians are a mixed lot: Roland Powell amusingly mocks insecure boyfriends and sings a singles bar pick-up song and Juan Villareal gets some laughs out of food stamps and The Blair Witch Project, while Tony Luewellyn flounders through weak material about Ex-Lax and the war on terror. Then along comes J.J., who gives a surreal spin to roadkill and giving birth to septuplets.

Comedian Felipe Esparza in his second 1-hour special - this time on HBO. This time, Felipes material gets more personal and focuses on his experience growing up as an immigrant in the United States, while still being very much an American. We hear more stories of the environment that created the man - gangs, drugs, growing up in the projects, etc. He also talks about being a teen father, a horrible one at that, as well as his marriage to his long-time wife and business partner who happens to be white.

Thank You Mask Man

This short animation set to Lenny Bruces live monologue tells how the Lone Ranger hooks up with Tonto. With Bruce doing all the voices, this animation begins with local folks upset at the Lone Ranger because he wont stay around to be thanked after a good deed. So, he stays and finds he likes hearing \Thank you mask man.\ When their attention starts to shift elsewhere, he shocks and disgusts the townspeople with a final request. According to the cartoon’s producer John Magnuson, at early showings of this, gay audiences were upset by its apparent “fag-bashing”. And it’s true, part of the fun of the piece is just crying out “Masked man’s a fag”, scandalising and defacing the image of this all-American hero. But it’s within the larger context of Bruce’s analysis of heroism, and that the towns people reject the Masked Man is because of their prejudices, not because Bruce is asking us to endorse them. Billy Connolly: Live in Dublin 2002 presents highlights from the Big Yins 2002 stage tour. The program is divided in two, the first part offering an hour from his Dublin show, the second delivering 45 minutes of highlights from eight other performances. Now 60, age has not withered Connolly--even if, as he is fond of reminding us, his pubic hair has turned grey--and his restless energy, enthusiasm, casual obscenity, and anger is as intense as ever. And, of course, very, very funny. Whether talking about the horrors of a prostate examination or reminiscing about his youth, Connolly has the audience in hysterics.
