As Hungarys political climate becomes increasingly radicalized, Vir\u00e1g, a former green politician, loses faith in the pretend-to-be democratic parliament of Hungary and retires from politics. She and her musician partner N\u00f3ra decide to adopt a child and focus on building a family together. With a sensitive lens and close access, directors Asia D\u00e9r and S\u00e1ri Haragonics follow the two women through their long and ultimately successful adoption process to bring home their young daughter. But tensions begin to rise between the two as Vir\u00e1g thrives in her role as a mother and N\u00f3ra struggles to find her place within the family. As the rising tides of right wing propaganda in Hungary begin to overflow into their family, their lives hit a boiling point and they must face the difficult decision of whether to leave their country behind.

Known as the best satire about communism, The Witness has become a cult classic, which was also well received by critics and general audiences alike when it was finally released outside of Hungary. Its candid and realistic portrayal of the incompetent communist regime has earned great acclaim for both the director and the film itself when it was shown at Cannes Film Festival in 1981. The Witness takes place during the height of the R\u00e1kosi Era, which was closely modeled after the ruthless and brutal Stalin regime. The film follows the life of an ordinary dike keeper, J\u00f3zsef Pelik\u00e1n, who has been caught for illegally slaughtering his pig, Dezs\u00f5. Instead of doing hard time for his \\heinous\\ crime, Pelik\u00e1n is elevated into an important position, generally reserved for the communist elite. Of course, Pelik\u00e1n is utterly clueless about his newfound luck, not to mention his new job. Even his new benefactor, the mysterious Comrade Vir\u00e1g, is reluctant to reveal the real reason behind Pelik\u00e1ns preferential treatment. Thus, begins Pelik\u00e1ns hilarious adventure deep within the \\sophisticated\\ communist society. One failure after another the incompetent Pelik\u00e1n is elevated higher and higher on the communist echelon, all the while remaining completely clueless about his promotions. Until one day, when he gets called for to return the \\favour\\ by falsely testifying against his long-time friend in a mock-up show trial.

The story of Regina Jonas found me. The worlds first woman Rabbi lived in Berlin of the 1930s, and her greatest dream was to become a Rabbi. She felt that she was born to be a Rabbi, but women were barred from becoming a Rabbi according to the Jewish laws. I was deeply impressed by her short life story, which was full of struggles. But how can I tell her story, when there is one surviving photo of her and only a few letters? That was the challenge. Rachel Weisz as the inspiring figure Regina, makes this story complete. The use of archive and experimental editing technique adds a magical layer which pulls the audience into this unique story.

A white Hungarian director rehearses a play with five young Roma actors. His play tells their real-life stories of abuse, drug addiction, and crime. It asks the question of whether left-wing white intellectuals trying to help people of color actually end up helping to perpetuate systemic racism.
