On March 18 1894 Buchanan was born in Benton Iowa as Paul Stuart Buchanan The son of a Presbyterian minister he received his undergraduate degree at Wooster College He taught English and coached basketball at the University of West Virginia then switched to Florida University where he started the schools 5000watt radio station
