Carolyn Jane Maloney nÊe Bosher February 19 1946 is an American politician who served as the US representative for New Yorks 12th congressional district from 2013 to 2023 and for New Yorks 14th congressional district from 1993 to 2013 The district includes most of Manhattans East Side Astoria and Long Island City in Queens Greenpoint Brooklyn as well as Roosevelt Island A member of the Democratic Party Maloney ran for reelection in 2022 but lost the primary to 10th district incumbent Jerry Nadler after redistricting drew them both into the 12th district Maloney was the first woman to represent New York Citys 7th Council district where she was the first woman to give birth while in office Maloney was also the first woman to chair the Joint Economic Committee On October 17 2019 she became the first woman to chair the House Committee on Oversight and Reform following the death of Elijah Cummings On November 20 2019 Maloney was formally chosen to succeed Cummings
