The debut feature film by Chu Hsien-Che, who made several documentaries, White Ant is a psychological drama that tells a story about sexual fetishism. Bai Yide is a young man living alone. He works at a bookstore and derives sexual pleasure by stealing and wearing womens underwear. One day, he receives a DVD in which his activities have been recorded and he becomes anxious. The DVD was sent by Junhong, who happened to know about Bais psychological trauma steming from working at Bais mothers wedding dress shop. The director shows deep interest in Bais anxiety and the emotional change in Junhong. Junhong sends the DVD as a message of warning but, ironically, it works as a way to harass the weak at the same time. This implies the dual face of power. We are all subject to power relations in our daily lives. White Ant, therefore, has both nature of a psychological drama and a social drama.

Detective Landers (Robert Douglas), of the Los Angeles Homicide Bureau, suspects murder when the body of a transient ranch hand is found in a sleazy Los Angeles hotel. Unable to be assigned officially to the case , Landers takes off on vacation, and goes to the swanky Glorietta Springs Hotel, a book of matches with that logo having been found at the scene of the murder, but ruled by the coroner as suicide. Other clues he has is a bad hangmans knot and a saccharin pill. There, he meets the bartender, Andy (Robert Alda), and the cigarette girl, Jo Ann Marlowe (Helen Westcott.) Following a tip from Jo Ann, he goes to a nearby ranch where the accidental death of the owner had recently occurred. He finds a piece of telephone wire, tracks it back and finds it leads to Andys room at the Gloriette Springs hotel. He also learns that Andy had a medical discharge from the Navy as a diabetes sufferer. Troubles and complications and an ambush follow.

This is the story of a young girl named Elsa who was raised by a single mother (Isabelle) in the city. Isabelle and Elsa begin the film moving in next door to an elderly man who collects butterflies (Julien). After meeting her new neighbor, Elsa finds out about the butterflies and in short annoys Julien for a while. Julien receives a mystery package from a fellow entomologist. Julien sets out on his annual attempt to find a rare species of butterfly that he had once promised his son he would find (son dead) in the French country side, specifically a region known as Vercors. Elsa stows away in his car. After being discovered she convinces him to let her come to Vercors with him. They bond while hiking and camping until Julien, who is initially annoyed by Elsa, near the end of the film seems to have a grandfather-granddaughter relationship with her. Elsa falls in a well. The police arrest Julien. Elsa tells everyone it is cool. Isabelle starts paying attention to her child. Julien and Elsa are friends. The mystery package contained a caterpillar which turned out to become the rare species of butterfly Julien set out to find. The species is called Isabelle. So Elsa finds her mother (Isabelle) and Julien finds the butterfly (Isabelle). Surprisingly happy feel for a french film.
