The hospitality industry is the artistic heartbeat of New York. Nowhere is that more prevalent than in Queens. Thousands of artists, musicians and actors flock to the citys most diverse borough to work in the service industry to supplement their dreams. In March of 2020 these dreamers put their lives on hold, self-isolating and sacrificing their income as Queens became the global epicenter of covid-19. As the weeks go by we follow two local bars fight off the virus, financial ruin and the deaths of loved ones, while the frontline workers battle to slow down the death toll engulfing the borough. Under strict and safe filming guidelines, we witnessed how both industries needed each other in order to bend the curve. Its a tale of two sacrifices that saved not only the lives of thousands but the future of New York.

Its a boy. March 16, 2016. Justin Simms has just become a dad. But his joy is tinged with unease. Little Jude enters the world at a time when traditional notions of masculinity are being contested as never before. How can he teach his boy to be a good man? With Sons, eight eventful years in the making, the Newfoundland-based filmmaker confronts the challenge with imagination and creative flair, crafting a big-hearted documentary essay on parenting, patriarchy-and the pain and pleasure of guiding boys through the turbulent cultural waters of the early 21st century. Woven throughout is luminous informal footage of Judes early years, charting his trajectory from helpless newborn to hurricane of a boy, obsessed with dinosaurs and superheroes. How can fathers steer sons away from negative models of masculinity and help them become caring adults? What does it even mean to be a \good man\? Isnt it enough to nurture basic human qualities-empathy, confidence, common decency-without dwelling on gender? Anchoring his enquiry in his home turf, a vibrant neighbourhood in downtown St. Johns, Simms enlists the help of family, friends and an engaging gang of fellow dads, all grappling with the challenge of parenting boys. \Masculinity can be beautiful,\ observes one participant, \but it needs a new story now.\ Making inventive use of archival imagery, Simms evokes a traditional maritime culture where men frequently were separated from their families, and in a series of soul-bearing conversations with his own father, he explores how \masculinity\ can always be questioned, always be reimagined.

The intelligent individuals have the ability to network and forge alliances. War against external conspecifics and brutal hunting of other monkey species is not uncommon. Shut Up and Play the Piano

Chilly Gonzales is a Grammy-winning composer, virtuoso pianist and entertainer. Criss-crossing between rap, electro and solo piano music, he became the outrageous pop performer who invited himself to the ivory tower of classical music. The eccentric artist inspires and collaborates with the likes of Feist, Jarvis Cocker, Peaches, Daft Punk and Drake. Change seems to be the only constant in Gonzales journey. Every time his audience thinks it has finally figured him out, he makes a radical move and breaks with its expectations. The cinematic documentary Shut Up And Play The Piano follows Gonzales from his native Canada to late 90s underground Berlin, and via Paris to the worlds great philharmonic halls. It dives deep into the dichotomy of Gonzales stage persona, where self-doubt and megalomania are just two sides of the same coin. The playfulness of his character is mirrored in the look of the film. Using Gonzales extensive video archive in a rather unorthodox manner, Shut Up And Play The Piano explores his persona by interweaving newly shot interviews and concert scenes with fictional materials of totally different time periods. Reality and fiction blur together as we embark on a trip through Chilly Gonzales world.

Return of the White Lion

Movie

White lions are rarer than the legendary snow leopard of the Himalayas and they occur naturally in only one place on earth - The Timbavati Reserve in South Africa. But very few white lions have been witnessed in the wild over the past decade. Today, most white lions are born in captivity. Their rarity and beauty has condemned them to a destiny where they have become curiosities and hunting trophies. Their future as a wild species is now questionable. But there are people trying to change this - the local Shangaan tribe has revered white lions for centuries and with the help of Linda Tucker, head of the Global White Lion Protection Trust, a carefully planned release project is underway which will see the first four white lions return to the wilds of Timbavati. Some scientists and conservationists question the merit of such a venture and fear its consequences. Mainstream conservationists maintain that white lions are of little scientific conservation value and that they struggle to survive in the wild because of their lack of camouflage. On the other hand, big cat specialists point out that the original Timbavati white lions came from hardy stock that had lived in the wild for many years. Caught in the middle of this controversy, a white lioness and her three cubs await their fate. They will be the first captive white lions to be released back into their endemic range. Their journey is filled with challenge, controversy and tragedy. Will they adapt and silence the critics, or will they fall victim to the perils of their wild homeland?
